Please note that compensation for the mandatory training is currently SUSPENDED until the negociation of new Collective Agreement.
As your Employer, the University of Ottawa must ensure that you complete the mandatory Health and Safety Training as mandated by provincial law.
If you have never been compensated for this work, the University agrees to pay you a one-time payment of $200 upon completing seven (7) mandatory training workshops.
How to complete your mandatory training
- Go to uottawa.ca/human-resources/ and click on the “Learning” tab.
- Click on “My Training File” under the list “Workshops”.
- Set up your account/log in with your Employee info (employee number + password):
- For help with your password, please contact the uOttawa IT Service Desk.
- You must log in for the system to record that you have completed the training as an employee.
- Click on “List of Workshops” and select “Mandatory” from the “By category” list of workshops.
- The list looks longer than it really is because all training is available in both official languages of the University.
- See the mandatory training workshops list below for an overview of which workshops you should complete.
Once you have completed the mandatory training, your name will automatically be added to the University’s list and you will receive your payment 30 days after the end of the academic term.
Mandatory training workshops list
As an employee of the University of Ottawa in the province of Ontario, you must complete the seven (7) mandatory* training modules:
- Accessibility Standards for Customer Service
- Respect in the Workplace
- Violence Prevention
- Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness**
- Worker Health and Safety Awareness
- Working Together: The Code and the AODA
- What to do when someone discloses an alleged incident of sexual violence – Module 1

All training workshops, mandatory and optional, are available here.
*While it is recommended that the entire list of mandatory training be completed, the workshops listed above are the top priority.
** You may not think you are a supervisor, but as a TA you are in a supervisory position in regard to the students of your course (during lectures, office hours, discussion groups, as a lab monitor, and as a proctor). Thus, please make sure you complete the Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness module.
