Get involved with CUPE 2626!

CUPE 2626 is currently looking for members to fill the following positions (see below). Elections will take place during the next Stewards’ Council meeting, on Wednesday September 10, 2014, at 5:30pm in room Tabaret (TBT) 083. Keep reading for more information on the available positions.

How to run for a position

If you wish to run for a position, please come to the Council meeting on September 10. If you cannot attend, please send a letter of intent to the contact person for the relevant position (see below) before 11:59pm on September 9. The letter must include the following information:

  • Your name, employee number and signature;
  • Your phone number and email address;
  • The title of the position you are running for;
  • Your Degree of Functionality in both official languages (see each position);
  • The signature of five (5) members supporting your nomination (NB: A member may nominate or support the nomination of only one person per position);
  • A document of one (1) page in length maximum (or two (2) pages if written in both official languages), in which you introduce yourself and present your electoral platform.

Positions to fill

Member in Good Standing (1 position)
This is a paid position. Please note that this is an interim mandate, until April 30, 2015. If you cannot be present at the Council meeting on September 10, please send your letter of intent to the President of Assembly at pa@cupe2626.ca (with info@cupe2626.ca in cc) before 11:59pm on September 9.

  • Helps other members of the Grievance Committee to fulfill their duties.
  • Helps the Chief Stewards deal with grievances, does the research and finds the documentation relevant to handling the grievances.
  • Honorarium: Approx. $1,700 (for full, 1-year mandate).
  • Language Requirements: This position requires a minimum Degree of Functionality A (written and oral comprehension, written and oral expression) in one of the two official languages and a Degree of Functionality B (written and oral comprehension, oral expression) in the second official language.

Trustee (2 positions)
This is NOT a paid position. Please note that this is an interim mandate, until the 2015 Fall General Assembly. If you cannot be present at the Council meeting on September 10, please send your letter of intent to the President of Assembly at pa@cupe2626.ca (with info@cupe2626.ca in cc) before 11:59pm on September 9. 

  • Exercises general supervision over the property of the Local.
  • Examines the books and records of the Secretary-treasurer.
  • Ensures that the local complies with the provisions of the CUPE National Constitution.
  • Language Requirements: This position requires a minimum Degree of Functionality A (written and oral comprehension, written and oral expression) in one of the two official languages and a Degree of Functionality D (written comprehension) in the second official language.

Finance Committee Member (several positions available)
This is NOT a paid position. Please note that there is no limit to the term of the mandate. If you cannot be present at the Council meeting on September 10, please send your letter of intent to the President of Assembly at pa@cupe2626.ca (with finances@cupe2626.ca in cc) before 11:59pm on September 9. 

  • Supports the Treasurer in their duties, including the development and revision of Union financial policies.
  • Language Requirements: None.
