We need a President of Assembly!

We need to elect an Interim President of Assembly (and possibly a Referendum Officer).

The President of Assembly is officially in charge of Referenda. However, if the President of Assembly does not accept the responsibility of Referendum Officer, a Referendum Officer will  also need to be elected.  See below for the task description of each role.

To run for the position, please come to the Stewards Council.

When: Thursday, July  2, 2020
Time: 16 h 30

If you cannot attend, please follow our  election procedure:  send a letter of intent to the president at pres@2626.ca (with info@2626.ca in cc) before 11:59 p.m. on July 1, 2020,  with the following information:

  • Your name, employee number, and signature
  • Your phone number and email address
  • The title of the position you are running for
  • Your Degree of Functionality in both official languages (French and English)
  • The signature of five (5) members supporting your nomination (a member may nominate or support the nomination of only one person per position)
  • A document of one (1) page in length maximum (or two (2) pages if written in both official languages), in which you introduce yourself and present your electoral platform

President of Assembly

  • Presides over the meetings of the EB and the SC, as well as the GAs.
  • Ensures that the rules and procedures are respected and the rights of the members, present or absent, are not infringed upon.
  • Must apply Bourinot’s Rules of Order, the CUPE 2626 Bylaws and the CUPE Constitution.
  • Honorarium: Approx. $4,250 (for full, 1-year mandate).
  • Language Requirements: This position requires a minimum Degree of Functionality A in one of the two official languages and a Degree of Functionality C in the second official language.

Referendum Officer

  • Organizes the referendum for the ratification of a new Collective Agreement.
  • Ensures that the procedure is duly followed. Note: exceptionally this summer and fall, voting will take place online through Google Forms.
  • Ensures that adequate communication and publicity notifying of an upcoming referendum are sent to the membership.
  • Compiles the results and communicates them to the membership.
  • Submits a brief report to the decision-making body or bodies which requested that a referendum be held.
  • Honorarium: one seventh (1/7th) of a full appointment (Approx. $800).
  • Language Requirements: This position requires a minimum Degree of Functionality A in one of the two official languages and a Degree of Functionality C in the second official language.
