With the end of the semester in sight, many CUPE 2626 members are approaching the end of their contract. We’d like to remind you that you are not required to work beyond the hours stipulated in your contract, or after its end-date.
If you find that you’ve completed the total hours specified in your contract, or if you think you will do so soon, we encourage you to submit a Workload Review Form to your supervisor. Your supervisor is required to meet with you to discuss the situation and can either reduce your work load, or increase your hours with a new contract. If your supervisor fails to do either, you can simply stop working after you complete the total amount of hours in your contract.
25 Hours/Week Limit
Additionally, no employee shall be required to work more than 25 hours in a single week, as per article 31.1 of the Collective Agreement. Final exams (proctoring or marking) are not an exception.
Union Representation
You always have the right to be accompanied by a Union Representative at any meeting to discuss your workload (See art. 31.5 and 31.6 of the Collective Agreement). If you encounter difficult situations in the workplace, please contact us at info@cupe2626.ca. We are here to help and support you.
